Rock of Ages is a sensational Broadway production starring Justin Lee Collins and former ex X-Factor champ Shayne Ward. In a relatively short span of time, the award winning smash hit musical has become massively popular with fans who keep queuing up on popular website TicketVistas to get Rock of Ages Tickets for a bargain.
This particular Broadway production does what hasn’t been attempted before by several other popular musicals. It’s purely a celebration of Rock and its repertoire of songs include classic rock songs like We Built this City, Here I Go Again and Wanted Dead or Alive among several others. The audience will be quick to recognize these catchy rock tunes and they will be grooving to the music in no time
Rock n Roll
The story is set in 1987 where a young girl Sherrie Christian travels to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming a famous singer while the male protagonist Drew Boneta is preparing for his shift at The Bourbon Room. Sherrie meets Drew when her suitcase is stolen and as the story progresses the two begin to fall in love. Drew Boneta dreams of becoming a famous rock star and wants it all. Stacee Jaxx and his band Arsenal are rock icons and the Bourbon Room’s owner Dennis wants them to perform at his club to bail it out of financial trouble.
What unfolds from there is a tale filled with magnificent set design that accurately captures the vibrant backdrop of a Rock loving city of Los Angeles, over the top choreography and several dramatic sequences which contribute heavily to the over-all feel of the show.
Let the Show Begin
This musical might not run 100 miles an hour like We Will Rock You but it certainly doesn’t disappoint. For me the highlight of the show is a character named Lonny who acts as sidekick to the club’s owner. Simon Lipkin’s portrayal of this funny character truly makes this show enjoyable as it is, apart from all the great songs featured on the show. Lonny also acts as a narrator of the musical and his interaction with the audience results in some genuinely hilarious moments.
Shayne Wards portrayal of has been rock icon who is now amidst drugs and women is impressive. There are some great scenes of Ward in his underwear which will surely get a hoot from the female members of the audience and he nails those high notes with relative ease.
The production team did a fantastic job in really involving the audience. Lighters were handed out to the audience before the start of the show so they could light them up and join in every time a classic rock ballad hit the speakers. That created a great atmosphere in the theater.
Rock of Ages guarantees a perfect night out with your family and friends. Once the show has ended you’ll exit the theater on a musical high. That is a guarantee. A presentation of Rock of Ages the musical is highly recommended.
